Paris Kern - The Feldenkrais Method
Moshe Feldenkrais

The Feldenkrais Method is named after its originator, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc. (1904-1984), a Russian-born physicist, judo expert, mechanical engineer and educator.

It is a form of somatic education that uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve movement and enhance human function. These lessons enable you to increase general flexibility and reduce chronic pain. By utilizing the nervous system more fully, you increase your range of motion and improve coordination regardless of your age or physical condition.

The two formats of the Feldenkrais Method are:

Awareness Through Movement®
In Awareness Through Movement (ATM) the Feldenkrais instructor leads you through a series of subtle exercises which create new movement skills. You discover which of these movements works best for you by noticing the changes in yourself. In a noncompetitive environment, you are able to progress at your own rate. As you move and listen to your internal sensations you begin to abandon unproductive habits and develop new, better ways of moving. Best of all, your new learning stays with you and becomes part of your everyday living.
Functional Integration®
This one-on-one learning process is the most direct way of experiencing The Feldenkrais Method. With highly trained hands, the practitioner communicates this learning using a gentle and respectful touch. Functional Integration is for anyone who needs to give attention to particular discomforts.

"Feldenkrais represents a revolution in human health. Through this method we can learn to improve…not only physically but also emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually." Smithsonian Magazine
"Awareness Through Movement and Functional Integration have helped me tremendously in recovery both physically and emotionally after a severe automobile accident." Tom Casciero,
